"Belt and Road" on the Rise: China and Central Asia Enter the Golden Age of Cooperation

2024 has marked another important milestone in the development of relations between China and Central Asia (CA).

The China-CA platform has proven itself as a platform for the practical implementation of ambitious plans, ensuring the growth of strategic interaction. Thanks to the integration of the "Belt and Road" initiative with the national strategies of the region, large-scale projects have been launched in infrastructure, trade, energy, education, culture, and other areas, reports DKnews.kz.

Friendship and cooperation blossom like trees

After the first China-Central Asia summit in the Chinese city of Xi'an, leaders of the six countries planted pomegranate trees symbolizing the fruitfulness and longevity of their relations.

Over the past year and a half, cooperation between China and the Central Asian countries has developed strictly according to the course set by the leaders. Not only the trees planted in the name of friendship are flourishing, but also the relations between the states, gaining new momentum.

China and Uzbekistan have established a comprehensive all-weather strategic partnership in the new era, while China and Tajikistan have entered into comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership in the new era.

In 2020, China and the Central Asian countries made an important decision to launch regular ministerial meetings, considering the interests of regional development and the needs of the peoples. In 2022, on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China, the leaders of the five CA countries proposed to elevate cooperation to the level of meetings of heads of state. In 2023, the first China-Central Asia summit took place in Xi'an, officially cementing the new format of high-level interaction.

In March 2024, the China-CA Secretariat began its operations, demonstrating the commitment of the parties to deepen their collaboration. The foreign ministers of the CA countries highly praised the launch of the Secretariat, noting its importance for coordinating interstate efforts.
